How to Treat Headache Using the Prophet’s Medicine

According to books based upon the works of Ibn Al Qayyim (rahimullah), headaches are generally caused by heat and fever in the head, because an accumulation of hot vapours are seeking a way out of the body. As the heat rises into the head, it causes an increase in amount of fluid in the cranium and a swelling of the membrane inside the skull. The pain can either be felt all over the head or more commonly, on one side of the head. In comparison, Migraines are usually caused by an obstruction of a blood vessel or vessels in the brain. The vessels can be blocked by tiny air bubbles or foreign bodies carried in the bloodstream which find their way into the brain. Many people find that applying gentle pressure to the head during a migraine helps ease the pain. The treatment for headaches and migraines depends upon their particular type and cause. Sometimes they can be treated with the induction of vomiting, by hijamah cupping, with compression head bandage or sometimes just with re...

Microwaving food in plastic containers increases risk of infertility, diabetes, cancer

NEW DELHI: Food microwaved in plastic containers can put you or your unborn child at a greater risk of infertility, diabetes, obesity and cancer. Scientists have found that heating food in plastic containers in a microwave oven can cause high blood pressure, affect fertility, and damage the brain functioning. On that note, heating plastic containers in the microwave releases 95 percent of all chemicals. “The most hazardous chemicals in plastic containers are bisphenol A, commonly known as BPA, and phthalate. The BPA we ingest gets into our bloodstream and may lead to a series of problems like infertility, hormonal changes, changes in gender traits and even different types of cancers. They also have side effects on animals causing testicular cancer, genital deformations, low sperm counts, and infertility in a number of species, including polar bears, deer, whales, and others,” said Dr Nitasha Gupta, IVF expert, Indira IVF Hospital, New Delhi. The level of exposure to BPA ...

Dog and carcass meat fear: sale of non-veg cuisine halved in Kolkata eateries

pork dishes — across restaurants in Kolkata and its surrounding areas. Consequently the Hotel and Restaurants’ Association of Eastern India (HRAEI) has issued an urgent advisory on Monday to its members asking them to stick to buying meat only from registered suppliers. The customer switched to fish and prawn, and even vegetarian dishes this weekend. ‘People are reacting to “rumours” about carcass meat having made its way to city eateries from dumpyards near Kolkata’ HRAEI members said. Meanwhile 20 ton carcass meat has been seized from Kolkata. Shaikh Shamim a biryani joint owner in South Kolkata said he has suffered more than 60 per cent drop in sales. “On any normal day, we would procure 25-30 kg of meat. But, after the carcass rumour, the procurement has dropped to just 8 kg a day. It is a big setback,” owner Sheikh Shamim said. Police also raided a whole sale chicken shop where it found diseased chicken besides rotten chicken.

9 Habits of the Prophet That Science Later Proved

Early Riser Prophet Muhammad slept early and woke up with the Adhan of Fajr each day. Being an early riser has scientifically been correlated with better productivity, as well as better mental health in general. So, waking up early may be hard but with baby steps, even if it’s just waking up 15 minutes earlier to start with, you can begin improving your quality of life. Eating Less The practice of eating less to prevent sickness and disease was emphasized by Prophet Muhammad, and now backed heavily by science much later. The Islamic concept ‘1/3 for your food, 1/3 for your liquids, and 1/3 for your breath’ matches very closely to the Japanese ‘hara hachi bu’ concept, which means eat until you are only 80% full. Read more about the health benefits of the ‘hara hachi bu’ practice here. Eating Slowly We now know that it takes our body 20 minutes to send signals to our brain that it is full. Slow eating will help you eat less food and improve your digestion, ...

10 Facts & Benefits Of Zam-Zam Water

1. The Story of how it came to be This accurate account of the originof Zam-zam holds with it an exquisite message… Hajar (Alayhis salaam) made use of the small amount of food that Ibrahim (Alayhis salaam) left for her and her baby, but ran out eventually and was soon thirsty and hungry-her milk dried up, her baby Ismail (Alayhis salaam) became hungry and began to cry. Hajar couldn’t afford seeing her son in pain so climbed up the hill which was later called As-Safa, to see if there was anyone in the horizon. She saw no one. She then climbed down, and reaching the valley, ran to the other hill, later called Al –Marwa, doing the same again, all this time her son twisting and turning in hunger. She repeated this seven times, and on the 7th time reached the top of the hill and heard a sound. To her amazement she found it coming from beneath the feet of Ismail (Alayhis salaam). At that point Jibra’eel (Alayhis salaam) began digging the well of Zam-zam from beneath his feet. Ha...

Health Benefits of Saying “Alhamdulillah”

There are many examples in the Qur’an and Hadith of the virtues of a positive mental attitude, perseverance and optimism in the face of adversity. However, did you know that patience and a positive outlook on life are two of the greatest healing tools that you can use? Surat Al-Baqarah in the holy Qur’an says in its 155th verse: “Give glad tidings to those who exercise patience when struck with adversity and say, ‘Indeed, we belong to God and to Him is our return.’ Such ones receive [the] blessings and mercy of their Lord, and such are the guided ones.” According to the findings of modern science, it appears that this mercy may often come in the form of improved health. Bernard Jensen says, in his book The Science and Practice of Iridology, “The doctor of the new day will recognize that a man’s most important workshop is not the physical body, but the mind that controls it.” Dr. Ted M. Morter confirms this in his book, Your Health… Your Choice, when he says that “negative ...

It’s Called Junk and You Still Eat It

Fast Food = Processed Food Basically, fast food is processed food; but what is processed food to begin with? Processed food is simply food that has been altered in a factory from the way in which nature presented it, as part of a bulk process where natural and chemical food additives are added. This leaves the final product without its naturally created nutrients like vitamins, minerals, and enzymes. Besides giving the food its delectable taste, food additives keep it lasting unspoiled for a long time, which means that processed food is usually stored for a long time before it is purchased and eaten! The oldest natural food additives are salt, sugar, and vinegar; and although these are natural, an excess in their amounts seriously endangers the health. Junk foods characteristically contain high amounts of salt (sodium chloride). Sodium is necessary for various metabolic functions; too much of it, however, is associated with an increased risk of hypertension (high blood p...

Thousands of cancer cases are preventable with lifestyle changes

LONDON: Getting rid of smoking tobacco, exercising and shedding weight may be key lifestyle behaviours that can cut down thousands of cancer cases a week, say researchers, including one of Indian-origin. The other major preventable lifestyle behaviours include drinking alcohol, reducing exposure to ultra-violet (UV) radiation, air pollution and eating good amount of fibre. Following these can prevent nearly four in 10 cancer cases in the UK, says the Cancer Research UK, a non-profit, in a paper published in the British Journal of Cancer. The study showed that more than one in 20 cancer cases could be prevented by maintaining a healthy weight. “Leading a healthy life doesn’t guarantee that a person won’t get cancer, but it can stack the odds in your favour. These figures show that we each can take positive steps to help reduce our individual risk of the disease,” said Harpal Kumar, chief executive at the Cancer Research UK. According to the World Health Organisa...

Weight-loss surgery may prevent kidney disease, failure

London: Undergoing bariatric surgery may significantly lower the risk of developing severe chronic kidney disease and kidney failure, according to a study. Obesity is a dangerous condition and goes hand in hand with elevated blood pressure, cardiovascular diseases and Type-2 diabetes, which in turn may lead to complications such as chronic kidney disease. Obesity is also an independent risk factor in developing chronic kidney disease. Different obesity treatment strategies include life style interventions, dietary modification, pharmacological and surgical treatment. The findings showed that patients with evidence of kidney damage — high levels of protein in the urine — benefited most from surgical treatment, indicating that surgery prevents progression of pre-existing kidney injury towards renal failure. “The study reported long-term effects of bariatric surgery compared to usual obesity care on incidence of end-stage renal disease alone and in combination with ch...

Stomach-narrowing surgery also eases chronic knee pain

Washington D.C. [U.S.A.]: Seems like, stomach-narrowing surgery does not just augment your beauty but also aids in easing the chronic knee pain. According to a NYU School Of Medicine-led study, extremely obese people who have a band surgically strapped around their stomachs to restrict food intake not only lose weight but also suffer less from arthritic knee pain. The pain, say the study leaders at NYU School of Medicine, proceeds from the deterioration and related inflammation in knee joints caused in part by the extra weight they bear. And while the pain relief seen with lap-band surgery applied to all patients with osteoarthritic knees, researchers found that it was most helpful in the youngest men and women who lost the most weight. "Our study shows that extremely obese people seeking relief from their knee pain should consider lap-band surgery earlier because the benefits from it being successful -- although significant for all ages -- decrease with age,...
